Position Title : Supported Employment Specialist

Reports to : Supported Employment Program Manager

Essential Functions:

The Supported Employment Specialist supports people in mental health recovery to find, get and keep competitive employment of their choice, utilizing a proven evidence-based practice.


Scope

Identify opportunities for competitive employment; provide the skill building and supports necessary to assist the individual in obtaining and maintaining his/her own goals related to employment.


Responsibilities
  • Provide vocational counseling and career exploration for individuals in recovery.
  • Help enhance program participants’ skills related to their employment goals, including resume/cover letter writing, interview preparation and job searching skills.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of goal plans related to employment.
  • Provide direct service in accordance with contractual guidelines. (Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services)
  • Develop job placement opportunities; establish and maintain relationships with community employers based on client preferences.
  • Collaborate with Bureau of Rehabilitation Services by having a representative at team meetings, providing vocational consultation to the team, as well as an opportunity to link a person in recovery to vocational services.
  • Maintain records required by best practices and produce reports as assigned.
  • Meet or exceed the established outcome measures of Laurel House and our funding sources.
  • Maintain communication with other providers on the individual’s support team, including clinicians, case managers, care coordinators, educational representatives and employers.
  • Provide or facilitate transportation to/from work sites during the initial hiring process for the program participant.
  • Facilitate supported employment programming including employment/education monthly dinners in the community (staff rotates responsibility for monthly dinner).
  • Perform other assignments and duties as assigned.
