Essential Functions:
The Supported Education Counselor enrolls program participants in the education program and provides assistance from the admissions process, through tutoring, training and support on campus and/or at The Resource Center, to successful completion of courses, certification or graduation. This position reports to the Manager, Supported Education and Thinking Well Programs.

Scope:
The Supported Education Counselor provides support to program participants who are pursuing educational goals, including assistance to establish recovery goals and objectives related to their pursuit of post-secondary education and/or a GED.
Responsibilities
  • Assists program participants at the Resource Center and on campuses who are attending or would like to attend colleges, universities or vocational training in the area, or provides assistance in obtaining GED. This includes help with the admissions process, applications for financial assistance, tutoring and mentoring arrangements, arranging transportation if needed, and all other issues and activities related to education.
  • Recruitment and engagement of program participants are essential parts of this position (e.g., presentations to referring agencies, school counselors)
  • Response to education-related inquiries.
  • Reports outcomes and services provided on a monthly and quarterly basis and as required by manager and/or funder.
  • Provides vocational counseling and career exploration for people in recovery.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of recovery support plans related to education.
  • Work with Director of Psychosocial Programs to deliver career planning and vocational groups as needed.
  • Provides direct service in accordance with contractual guidelines of Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).
  • Maintains records in accordance with policies and procedures and adherence to HIPAA.
  • Provides reporting as assigned (e.g., Supported Education Program enrollment).
  • Facilitates supported education workshops and/or events in the community (e.g., college fairs, networking events or presentations).
  • Will be trained and certified as cognitive remediation instructor to facilitate sessions for clients in the Thinking Well (cognitive remediation) program.
