As part of its ongoing work with its community partners, the department recently awarded Laurel House Inc. in Stamford a $20,000 grant to fund its supported education program. The nonprofit agency is located in Stamford, but the funding will go to assist Greenwich residents who are either existing clients or qualify for the department’s services.
Laurel House helps people who are living with mental health disorders. It provides a “particular focus on early intervention” and, when school buildings are open, is able to have onsite services at high schools and colleges. It also is available to meet with clients and their families in the community.
The supported education program is a free program that helps economically disadvantaged high school and college students, including qualifying Greenwich residents of all ages, who are living with a mental health disability and are enrolled in a post-secondary educational or vocational program.
The Department of Human Services provides funding to other local and area nonprofits. These community partners include Neighbor to Neighbor, Abilis Inc., YWCA Greenwich, Inspirica, Kids in Crisis, Family Centers and more.
